Garlic shrimp is one of our absolute favorite French shrimp appetizers. It is easy to make, requires 5 simple ingredients and just 5 minutes to prepare. If you can find live shrimp, we recommend you use them for maximum flavor and freshness. If you are a shrimp lover, make our shrimp fettuccine alfredo next!

  • Garlic
  • Shrimp
  • Parsley
  • Salted butter
  • Olive oil

How do you make garlic shrimp?

This recipe couldn’t be any easier! Just prepare a frying pan with the olive oil and butter, add the garlic, add the shrimp, cook until pink (4-5 minutes) and then add parsley to the mix. Season with salt and pepper and voila, you’re all done!

Tips to make this garlic butter shrimp recipe

  • The taste of this recipe is entirely dependent on the quality of the shrimp you buy. We bought ours at the local market on the rue Poncelet – alive – and rushed home immediately to make them. They were exquisite.
  • The quality of the butter counts too. Our favorite is thick, French, salted butter. Use the best quality butter you can find.
  • Use fresh parsley if you can, as it has more flavor than dried parsley.

Selecting the perfect shrimp :

How do you choose the perfect shrimp? Go for freshness every time when choosing shrimp. Again, if you have access to live shrimp, go for it, the flavor is even better!

Add your own twist to this garlic butter shrimp :

  • Add some hot pepper to make spicy garlic shrimp.
  • Spread the shrimp over linguine to make garlic butter shrimp linguine.

You can enjoy these tasty garlic butter shrimp on their own or serve them on a bed of rice, couscous or pasta.

How to make garlic shrimp pasta :

Select the pasta you will use for your pasta recipe. Prepare the pasta according to the package instructions, cooking it for one minute less than indicated on the package. With the shrimp still in the frying pan, toss the pasta into the pan and cook together for one minute. Serve immediately.

Which wine goes best with garlic shrimp?

We highly recommend a dry white wine to enjoy with your garlic butter shrimp, such as this Jean-Max Roger Pouilly Fumé Cuvée Les Alouettes 2015.

Description

All you need is 5 ingredients and 5 minutes to make this tasty garlic shrimp! We love this  easy French shrimp appetizer and you will love it too!


Ingredients

Scale
1 garlic clove (chopped)
1/2 lbs. of shrimps
5 sprigs of parsley (chopped)
Salt & black pepper
1 tsp salted butter
1 tbsp of olive oil

Instructions

Heat the olive oil and butter in a frying pan on high heat.
Add the garlic and heat for a minute.
Add the shrimp and a pinch of salt and heat until they turn pink (4-5 minutes).
Add the parsley and cook for another minute.
Add the ground black pepper.
Enjoy hot or cold.

Notes

Remove the shells before eating.
