What is garlic ginger paste?

Garlic ginger paste is one of the most basic essentials for good, Indian cuisine. It is fragrant, flavorful and immune-boosting. In most Indian homes, most families would make it from scratch for their curries.

To make garlic ginger paste, you will need

  • Ginger
  • Garlic
  • Olive Oil
  • Water

How to make garlic ginger paste, step by step

This recipe could not be simpler! You can make the paste in 2 easy steps.

  • Step 1 – Peeled the ginger and the garlic.
  • Step 2 – Put in a blender with olive oil and water and mix for 5 minutes, until the mixture becomes white and creamy.

Many Indian recipes call for “garlic ginger paste”. You can purchase it already made but homemade is so much better. The taste is more powerful and it’s typically healthier too.

If you love Indian recipes as much as we do, you should definitely try making your own homemade garlic ginger paste.

Make it to use right away, keep it on hand in the fridge for a couple of weeks and reach for it when you need it, or freeze a batch to have on hand when you make Indian food.

  • Make it fresh – Although you can make the paste in advance and keep it in the fridge or even freeze it, I would recommend making it when you are going to use it if you can. It will be fresher and more delicious!
  • Use fresh ginger and garlic – You could use powdered substitutes to make the paste but it will be way more delicious if you use fresh ginger and garlic.

Description

Once you’ve made your own homemade ginger garlic paste, you’ll never go back to store-bought. Garlic ginger paste is bursting with gorgeous flavors and is a crucial ingredient in all of your homemade Indian curries. Make to use right away, store in the fridge for a couple of weeks and use as needed, or freeze in an ice cube tray so you have the paste on hand whenever you need it.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 3oz (85g) of ginger – by weight
  • 3oz (85g) of garlic – by weight
  • 1 tbsp of olive oil
  • 3 tbsp of water

Instructions

  1. Peel the ginger and garlic. 
  2. Mix in a blender with olive oil and water for 5 minutes, until the mixture becomes white and creamy.
  • Prep Time: 5-10 minutes
  • Cuisine: Indian
