In India, you will find both sweet and savory versions of lassi. Savory lassi have salt in them and are made with a plain yogurt and sometimes rose water or spices. Sweet versions are made with fruit and a sweetener such as honey or sugar.

I grew up going out for Indian dinners and NYC and Hugo and I love going out for Indian meals here in Paris in the Indian neighborhood and the Passage Brady. In the West, we are more familiar with sweet lassi, and particularly, mango lassi.

We discovered savory lassi for the first time when we travelled to Myanmar and ate in an Indian restaurant where the owner was an Indian man who had been living in Myanmar for a long time. The lassi was extremely thick and salty which sounds bizarre but was actually really interesting and delicious.
