Description

Sweet and spicy whiskey BBQ sauce made with onion, garlic, shallot, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, Jack Daniels whiskey, paprika, turmeric, red chilli peppers, ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar and olive oil.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 medium onion
  • 2 cloves of fresh garlic
  • 1 shallot
  • 1 tsp of Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp of soy sauce
  • 1 tsp of Jack Daniels whiskey
  • 2 tsp of paprika
  • 2 tsp of turmeric
  • 2 dried red chili peppers (chopped or powdered)
  • 1 tsp of ginger (powdered)
  • 6 tbsp of ketchup
  • 1 tbsp of cider vinegar
  • 1 tbsp of brown sugar
  • Salt & pepper (to season)
  • Olive oil

Instructions

  1. Chop the onion, shallot and cloves of fresh garlic, finely.
  2. Add a large spoonful of olive oil to a medium pan. Heat the onion and shallot in the olive oil on medium heat. Add the salt.
  3. Continue to heat for 4 minutes until they begin to caramelize and to sweat the onion and shallot.
  4. Add the garlic to pan. Continue heating another 1-2 minutes. Lower heat (to low heat).
  5. Add the paprika, turmeric, ginger, pepper and chili pepper to the pan. Continue heating another 2 minutes.
  6. Add the soy sauce and stir for another 1-2 minutes until the soy sauce evaporates.
  7. Add sugar. Keep heating until it caramelizes.
  8. Once it has caramelized, add the vinegar. Keep heating another 2-3 minutes (still on low heat).
  9. Add the Worcestershire sauce. Keep heating another 2 minutes. Keep stirring the mixture.
  10. Increase heat to medium heat.
  11. Add the Jack Daniels. When it boils (this only takes about 10-15 seconds), flambe the sauce with a lighter or a match. (Careful of your eyebrows!) 😉 Stir the sauce.
  12. Add ketchup. Continue cooking for 2-3 minutes.
