What is traditional French food?
What comes to mind when you think about traditional French food? When you day dream about your days in Paris, what are you dreaming about eating? Are you eating croissants? Munching on gratin dauphinois? Spenind time drinking café crèmes in cafes in Paris?
What will you eat on a traditional French food tour?
It is no secret that the French know good food. Even after 16 years living here in Paris, I am amazed by the quality and flavors we enjoy at every meal.
French Cheeses
We started the evening at with an authentic cheese plate at an adorable wine bar.
If you have been following this blog for a while then you know we love cheese and enjoy it regularly on our own and in the dishes we prepare at home.
The selection of cheeses was lovely. It was a nice variety of flavors and textures and the perfect way to get a great introduction to French cheeses.
Oysters and Champagne
Our second stop may have been our favorite because it included Champagne and oysters! Hugo was very happy too because we enjoyed two varieties of oysters (n°4 and n°3). We won’t give you all the details about the difference between oysters because we want you to enjoy the food tour and learn as you taste!
We love oysters and eat them regularly, we have even sampled them on the beaches of Normandy, and we absolutely loved the oysters we tasted during the tour.

Falafel on the rue des Rosiers
After a lovely stroll from the 4th arrondissement to the 3rd arrondissement, walking past the Mairie du 3ème, the Marché des Enfants Rouges and some of my favorite clothing boutiques on the rue des Francs Bourgeois, our next gastronomic adventure took place on the rue des Rosiers! Can you guess what we ate? Delicate balls of chickpea goodness, also known as falafel! The perfect sidewalk treat for a yummy burst of flavor!
Savory crêpes
After snapping some photos on the rue des Rosiers, we kept walking and stopped to taste savory crepes, also known as galettes or buckwheat crepes. We shared a forestière (chicken, cream and mushrooms) a complète (ham, cheese and egg). They were tasty!

Boeuf Bourguignon and Red Wine
Our fifth, and final, stop brought us to our boeuf bourguignon and red wine dinner. You can’t come to Paris without trying Boeuf Bourguignon. Not only is this traditional beef stew one of the best classic French meals, it is the perfect treat if your visit Paris in Winter.
