Don’t Miss These Things to Do in Troyes France (2024)

There are so many amazing things to do in Troyes France. You are going to love your experience there! We recently enjoyed the most beautiful stay at La Maison de Rhodes for our wedding anniversary. These were some of the best things to do in the beautiful city of Troyes that we would recommend you do too.

Things to Do in Troyes France

Drink Champagne

When in Troyes, you must drink Champagne! You can visit the surrounding Champagne vineyards and even buy some Champagne to bring home. This is the courtyard of the beautiful Maison de Rhodes Hotel where you can buy a bottle of Champagne and enjoy it during your stay.

You can also book a Champagne tasting and guided vineyard hike along the Côte de Bar, a 45 minute drive from Troyes.

Stay in a luxury historic hotel

During our trip to Troyes we stayed in one of my favorite hotels that I have ever stayed in, La Maison de Rhodes. If you are planning a special trip to this part of France, I highly recommend you book a stay at La Maison de Rhodes. You will love it.

Explore the old town

Troyes is such a beautiful city to visit. Architecture lovers will be completely enamored walking around Troyes. The town is filled with quaint, small streets and old wooden houses. People are also surprised to discover that Troyes is located along the Seine (the same river that runs through Paris)!

Visit the Ruelle des Chats

Make sure you walk down the narrow little Ruelle des Chats. The teeny tiny street has beautiful exposed stone. Although we didn’t see any cats, we did stop for a glass of Champagne at one of the adorable little bars on the street. One of the best restaurants in Troyes, , is also on the Ruelle des Chats. (If you want to eat here during your trip, make sure you call ahead to make a reservation.)

Try Prunelle

Have you heard of Prunelle? We hadn’t either! It is a Sloe Gin that is typically enjoyed as a digestif (after dinner drink). It has been distilled since 1840 and even won a gold medal in Paris in 1900.

Visit the Cellier Saint Pierre to see how it’s made, taste the delicious liquor and buy a bottle to bring home. This would make a really unique foodie gifts for friends and family as well.

Troyes Cathedral

If you love beautiful architecture, then you will definitely want to visit the Troyes Cathedral.

Cathédrale de Troyes

Sainte Madeleine Church

Make sure to visit the Sainte Madeleine church as well!

Basilique Saint-Urbain

The Basilique Saint-Urbain is gorgeous too.

Eat Andouillette

It’s not for everyone, but if you are an adventurous meat-loving eater, why not taste the local sausage, andouillette. It is a coarse grain sausage made with pig’s innards. It has an extremely pungent odor, not for the faint of heart. Hugo loves it, I always pass when it is offered to me. You do you.

Go for eclairs at Maison Caffet

Maison Caffet has a great reputation as one of the absolute best places for pastries in Troyes and it does not disappoint. We tried a coffee eclair and a chocolate eclair and both were absolutely delicious. We have tried a lot of eclairs all over France and these were some of the most delicious we have ever had.

Where to stay

We stayed at La Maison de Rhodes and we would absolutely go back. Our stay was pure magic!

If you are looking for a beautiful, historic, centrally located hotel, La Maison de Rhodes is for you.

It is also incredibly romantic, if you are planning to travel with your special someone. Hugo and I enjoyed such a romantic time there.

Where to eat in Troyes

These were some of the best restaurants we tried during our trip. The restaurants tend to be quite small in Troyes, so I would recommend calling ahead to reserve a table.

  • Aux Crieurs de Vin – a wine bar with a small selection of dishes made primarily from organic ingredients
  • Claire et Hugo – simple and delicious seasonal French food
  • Caffè Cosi – if you’re in the mood for Italian food during your trip to Troyes, Caffè Cost serves delicious pasta, risotto and authentic Italian desserts like tiramisu and homemade tarts.
