The ultimate cheese toast

This is the best cheese toast to enjoy with all your soups! Crunchy French baguette, warm, melted cheese, salt, pepper and pumpkin seeds come together to make these incredibly tasty cheesy toast. Pair it with all of your favorite soups this Fall and Winter. We’ve been eating it with our chestnut veloute and this erwtenseop on repeat.

What is cheese toast?

Cheese toast is just what it sounds like – cheese on toast! So simple and such cheesy goodness.

Once you have made this tasty treat covered with amazing melted cheese and crunchy seeds, you will never want to enjoy a soup without them again!

Cheese toast ingredients

  • Grainy French baguette bread (or other favorite bread)
  • Cheese (we used Emmental, but you can use your favorite cheese that melts well)
  • Pumpkin seeds

How to make cheese toast in the oven

  • Step 1 – Heat oven to 350°F/175°C.
  • Step 2 – Top the bread with a slice of cheese & pumpkin seeds.
  • Step 3 – Bake the bread, cheese & pumpkin seeds for 10 minutes.
  • Step 4 – Sprinkle with salt & pepper.

Tips to make the perfect cheesy toast

  • Use a cheese that melts well. Some ideas? Emmental, cheddar, mozzarella, Fontina, gruyere, gouda…
  • Use a hight-quality, delicious bread. We used a grainy French baguette for this recipe, but feels free to use your favourite bread. Thick works best when baked in the oven!

Make this cheese toast recipe your own

  • Add poultry by adding a slice of turkey or chicken underneath the cheese.
  • Add meat by adding a slice of coppa or prosciutto underneath the cheese.
  • Skip the pumpkin seeds if you prefer.
  • Top with different grains or seeds, such as poppy seeds, sunflower seeds or chia seeds.

How to serve cheesy toast

  • Serve the cheese toast on the side of your favorite soup.
  • Chop up the toast to make cheese toast croutons and top your soup with them.

Cheese on toast is simply cheese melted over toast, whereas Welsh rarebit has additional ingredients such as beer, Worcestershire sauce, butter and mustard.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 grainy baguette
  • 4 large slices emmental cheese
  • A handful Raw & organic pumpkin seeds
  • Salt & pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat oven to 350°F/175°C.
  2. Top the bread with a slice of cheese & pumpkin seeds.
  3. Bake the bread, cheese & pumpkin seeds for 10 minutes.
  4. Sprinkle with salt & pepper.
