Tips to make the perfect shrimp fettuccine alfredo :
- Make sure not to overcook the pasta. Fettuccine Alfredo is best enjoyed al dente. Cook for 1 minute less than is indicated on the package, since it will continue to cook once it is in the frying pan at the end.
- Fresh shrimp work best for this recipe (rather than frozen shrimp).
- Add 2 to 3 tbsp of the water you used to cook the pasta to the sauce for extra flavor.
One of my favorite recipes as a child was fettuccine alfredo (just fettuccine and creamy alfredo sauce). It’s not a well known recipe here in Paris and it was so much fun to enjoy it with Hugo for the first time! It’s not the lightest recipe (hello, heavy cream, butter and cream cheese all together in the perfect flavor combo!) but it’s a wonderful meal to enjoy from time to time. Invite some friends over and make this meal. Your friends will love you for it.
Add your own twist to this Shrimp Fettuccine Alfredo :
- Switch the shrimp out for chicken and make chicken fettuccine alfredo.
- Make a healthier shrimp fettuccine alfredo by skipping the wine and replacing it with lemon juice.
- Make extra fettuccine alfredo sauce and put aside for later. (You can store the sauce in the fridge in an airtight container for 2-3 days.)

The key to getting perfectly finely grated parmesan is a proper grater. This one is our favorite. If you love to cook, we definitely recommend adding a high quality grater to your kitchen utensils. (We use this exact same one for cheese, when a recipe calls for lime or lemon zest and more!)
If you’ve been following this blog for a while, then you know that we love spicy food! Although you can use your spice of choice, we recommend using an Bird’s Eye Chilies from Thailand. It complements this dish perfectly. If you’re interested in learning more about these delicious chili, you can learn more here.
Shrimp Fettuccine Alfredo Wine Pairing
We highly recommend a dry white wine to go with this shrimp fettuccine alfredo, such as this Jean-Max Roger Pouilly Fumé Cuvée Les Alouettes 2015.
