The Rembrandt House is a popular museum in Amsterdam and if you wait to purchase your ticket, there may not be available tickets the day you want to visit. You will also risk losing precious time from your trip to Amsterdam waiting on line.
I love getting all of our tickets for museums before we head off on a trip. Having those reservations booked gives our trip a bit of structure and ensures that we can get those key visits we’re sure we want to do during our trip.

What to see at the Rembrandt House Museum Amsterdam
Again, the Rembrandt House is quite small, so you will be able to see everything during your visit.
In this post, I just wanted to highlight some things you definitely don’t want to miss.
I hope by sharing my favorite bits of the visit, I will also help you to feel more excited about your upcoming visit.
Rembrandt’s Cabinet of Curiousities
This is my personal favorite room in the Rembrandt House!
I’ve always been fascinated by cabinet of curiousities. Also known as wonder-rooms, they were fantastic collections of objects from abroad dating back as far as the sixteenth century in Europe.
Cabinets of curiousities were not only collections based around the passions of the individual collector, but also a way to show wealth and rank in society. Many of the items came from Asia and often collections would include animals and insects, tools, shells and stones.

Rembrandt’s Etchings
Did you know that Rembrandt created a large collection of etchings?
He is definitely better known for his exquisite oil paintings, but he was also a talented etcher.
See his etchings at the museum, and if you’re lucky you’ll even be able to see an etching demonstration like we did the first time we visited the museum a few years ago.

The Grand Entrance
When you visit the Rembrandt House you will get the chance to see a room that is the grand entrance. You’ll notice this room is filled with paintings (not Rembrandt’s paintings).
You’ll learn with your audio guide that, at the time, entrance halls were elaborately decorated to show others (when you opened the door to your home) that you were prosperous!
Rembrandt lived and worked in this house and wanted to show others when he opened the door, or when they entered the home for the first time, that he was doing well financially.
