Hugo and I popped into Partisan Cafe to try their artisanal coffee and tasty baked goods. We are always up for trying cafes in Paris and were delighted by the bright, open space, fragrant aroma of freshly brewed coffee that filled the air and selection of cookies and cakes, including vegan and gluten-free options. If you are spending time in the Marais, this cafe is perfectly located for you to stop in and enjoy a delicious coffee too.
How was the coffee? And the treats?
Hugo ordered espresso while I opted for a cappuccino in a new wide coffee mug. We shared a chewy, gluten-free cookie decked out with seeds and filled with dates. Hugo loves his espresso and can be quite picky about it. He loved the coffee at the Partisan Cafe. I loved my cappuccino and we were delighted by our cookie, which was a nice break from the standard fare you can now find at most artisanal coffee shops in Paris : chocolate chip cookie, lemon poppyseed pound cake, scones and muffins.
Looking for a spot to spend a rainy day?
This is a cozy spot to spend time with your love, chat with a friend, cozy up with a good book or work away on your Mac. I find myself working in cafes more and more. Although I love my home office, it is such a joy to venture out, find a darling cafe, and sit with freshly brewed coffee as I write and edit photos. I am thinking of putting together a post that shares all of my favorite spots to sit and work in Paris. Not working cafes, I never work in these, but more regular cafes that are work-friendly, meaning you can sit, write on your computer for as long as you want, and feel perfectly comfortable doing so. Would that interest you guys?
The Arts et Métiers Neighborhood
This part of the Marais in the 3rd (or haut Marais) is a bit less visited than the trendier 4th arrondissement. Two funny stories about that. Before Hugo and I were together, I lived in the Marais for 6 years from 2004-2010. When I first moved to the Marais, it was an up and coming neighbourhood and I had spent very little time there, as I spent most of my time in the 1st, 6th and 7th arrondissements (I lived across from the Louvre at the time).
Once I moved into the neighborhood, I became obsessed with the Marais and thought I would live there forever (I have since moved on to two different neighborhoods since then and love them both too). At the time, I adored the 4th but would have refused to live in the 3rd – it just didn’t have the same feeling, there were way fewer restaurants and boutiques, making it less interesting to me at the time.
The second part of the story is that I even visited an apartment to buy in the 3rd before selecting my apartment in the 4th, and felt that I couldn’t wrap my head around living in the 3rd. It is a whole new world today! It is such a lovely part of the Marais and absolutely worth checking out now, although it is still lesser known than the more fashionable 4th. This article explains the charm of the Arts et Métiers neighborhood, and why you should visit it on your next trip to Paris, well.
The Arts et Métiers neighborhood is home to the beautiful Arts et Métiers Museum, the Temple Square and some of our favorite brunch places, most specifically, the Café Charlot.
