October inspiration! October was a beautiful month full of delicious food, wonderful food adventures, colorful leaves and gorgeous Parisian streets. We spent a long weekend by the sea in Picardie and a weekend in Burgundy in Tonnerre, next to Chablis. We are looking forward to our next weekend away, in Reims, to visit champagne caves and then tell you all about it!
In the meantime, we are sharing our October inspiration, everything that inspired us last month…
October inspiration : RECIPES
October was all about pumpkin recipes. We made A LOT of pumpkin recipes and enjoyed every bite!
We shared our :
Perfect Pumpkin Soup for Cosy Autumn Nights
We also shared some (non-pumpkin) recipes :
Homemade Tehina for Your Next Hummus Adventure
Wholewheat Ratatouille Pizza – Healthy Comfort Food
Yogurt Keffir Banana Lassi Smoothies
October inspiration : COOL FOODIE EVENTS
In October we had the pleasure of attending the Salon du Chocolat. We were inspired by so many amazing pastry chefs and a little high off of all the chocolate we tasted! 🙂
October inspiration : IN OUR READING NOOK (our favorite books at the moment) :
Christophe Adam continues to WOW us with his gorgeous éclairs de génie. He was at the Salon du Chocolat signing his gorgeous cookbooks. We love Les Éclairs. It is our go-to book for making perfect éclairs.
We also love Mercotte – best known for her awesome hosting skills on Le Meilleur Patissier which we watch religiously every Wednesday evening. Her book, Envie de Desserts, is full of recipes perfect for your home kitchen. We were so lucky to meet her at the Salon du Chocolat and to taste one of her delicious homemade verveine-citronnelle macarons.
The Only Street in Paris – I am reading this at the moment. It was a gift from a lovely friend of mine, Shannon on her recent trip to Paris. This book talks about the rue des Martyrs and our neighborhood – all around the 9th. To know the rue des Martyrs is to love the rue des Martyrs. French foodie culture at its absolute best.
October inspiration : 5 OF OUR FAVORITE INSTAGRAM PAGES TO FOLLOW NOW!
We LOVE Instagram. It’s our favorite social media at the moment because it’s such a great place to share visual content. For a food blog, visual is key. Now we just need a “taste” button on Instagram! Who’s with me?!
We spend part of our time on Instagram sharing our own work and even more time checking out all of the gorgeous food pics shared by our food making and sharing community.
We love so many Instagram accounts and will be sharing our favorites with you over the coming months. To get started, we are sharing this month’s top 5 of our FAVORITE Instagram accounts :
@My Meatless Meals – our favorite vegan girl, Mook, in Thailand. Mook searches far and wide to find the best all vegan treats in Bangkok and beyond. She also opens up her home kitchen to us sharing her creations on her Instagram page daily. She writes a lovely blog as well, My Meatless Meals. We love her vegan pad thai and spicy naked eggplant stir fry recipes to name a few.
@Healthy Aperture – the most beautiful collection of healthy food recipes. Healthy Aperture is a food sharing site for healthy recipes. In addition to their gorgeous Instagram page, check out their site and submit your own healthy food photos and recipes to be featured.
@Gourmadela – our favorite NYC restaurant reviews. We love this girl! A Frenchie living in New York, eating in fabulous places and documenting it all on her Instagram page and on her beautiful review site.
@A Parisian Journey – we are rooting for our friend Chelsea who is competing for the title of the next Meilleur Patissier on the French TV channel, M6. Besides being a wonderful friend and all around lovely person, she is an amazing baker and cook! We love her blog, A Parisian Journey, too!
If you’re not following us on Instagram yet, please do @ahedgehoginthekitchen! If you already follow us, THANK YOU!

October inspiration : TRAVEL
In October, we travelled to Picardie. We ate homemade mussels and enjoyed the sunshine while walking on the boardwalk with our dogs, Violette and ChouChou. This is what we love drinking on cool Autumn nights by the sea.
We made the most delicious mussels and homemade french fries (recipes coming soon) :
For more photos of our adventures in Picardie, hop over to our Instagram page.
We also visited Tonnerre in Burgundy. We enjoyed full-bodied Pinot Noir and stocked up on our collection of bottles from 2014 (the year of our wedding). We now have over 24 bottles of wine from 2014 in our cave!
We also had the chance to eat at our favorite restaurant in Tonnerre : Le Saint Père. This gorgeous restaurant is known for it’s incredible collection of antique coffee grinders.
