Light of Creation Vienna Review
We got to enjoy this spectacular, immersive light show during our recent trip to Vienna and this is our honest review so you can decide if you want to book this experience during your trip. Spoiler alert : we loved it and highly recommend you add it to your Vienna itinerary!
Votive Church (Votivkirche) History
The Votive Church, or Votivkirche, was our favorite church we visited while we were in Vienna. It is so beautiful. The outside looks like lace!
Emperor Franz Joseph miraculously survived an assassination attempt in 1853. His brother, Archduke Ferdinand Maximilian decided the best to show his extreme gratitude would be to have the Votivkirche built.
The Votive Church is neogothic and was designed by Heinrich Ferstel. It took more than 20 years to build and was completed on April 24th, 1879, the day of the Silver Wedding Anniversary of Emperor Franz Joseph and Empress Sisi. Some of the highlights of this stunning church are the stained glass windows and the painted arches.

Where are the best seats?
Choose your seats based on your personal preferences!
We were in the middle towards the back and loved our seats. From there, we had a perfect view of the entire church and the whole ceiling! Our seats were Category I seats.
Category II seats are the seats right in the middle of the church where the view is partially restricted by the chandeliers. Not ideal – but if these are the only seats left, still go for it!

How to make the most of your experience
Use the bathroom before you go! It is important to note that there are no bathrooms available inside the church, so make sure you use the restroom before you arrive for the performance. You could plan to go for a glass of wine or coffee and a sweet treat in one of Vienna’s nearby cafes after that show.
If you have epilepsy, skip this activity. Light shows are not recommended for individuals with epilepsy.
Snap some photos and film part of the show to enjoy again and again. You’re allowed to take photos and film during the light show as long as you don’t use a flash and respect your neighbors, so why not take advantage to have a unique and beautiful record of your experience.
