Arriving at La Sirene Cap Gris Nez
We left Boulogne-sur-Mer and headed towards Cap Gris Nez making stops at La Pointe aux Oies, Audresselles and Ambleteuse.
We arrived at La Sirene Cap Gris Nez just before our 12:30 lunch reservation. A sign on the door said every seat was reserved and we saw quite a few people walk up to the door and turn around sadly. If you want to eat a La Sirene when you visit Cap Gris Nez, a reservation is a must!
La Sirene Cap Gris Nez Menu
We started our meal with an apéro. I had a glass of Champagne and Hugo had a Perrier Citron since he was driving afterwards. There is something about sipping Champagne with an ocean view that is just spectacular. I highly recommend it!
Hugo is happy! Hugo avoided drinking any alcohol since he was driving afterwards but was happy with his Perrier and lemon.
Appetizers
If you’ve been following along for a while, you may already be aware that Hugo grew up on the French coast, just an hour and a half away from Cap Gris Nez. He absolutely loves the sea and all things beach, including seafood. He will jump at any chance to order a tasty seafood plate!
This lovely seafood plate included crevettes grises (small grey shrimp), a clam, an oyster, bulots (whelks) and shrimp. Everything was freshly fished and absolutely delicious.
I was so excited to see crab cakes on the menu. I absolutely love crab cakes and haven’t had them since I was in high school and still living in NYC. I have never seen them on a menu in Paris or any of the other places we have traveled in recent years.
This crab cake was slightly different than the crab cakes you would find in the North East in the US, as it was deep fried. I loved trying a different type of crab cake and I absolutely loved it. It was served with a lemon cream and spring onion. I am getting hungry just thinking about it again now!
Main Courses
As a main course, Hugo had red mullet with vegetables. It was served with a light cream sauce. It was absolute perfection!
As a main course, I enjoyed the sole meunière. Sole is readily available on the North Coast of France, we saw it when visiting the morning fish market with our guide Antoine, and I had been wanting to order it since we arrived in Nord Pas de Calais. I was so excited to see it as a main course option in La Sirene Cap Gris Nez and make my choice immediately!
Time for dessert!
Then it was time for dessert! I can’t get over how beautiful this gorgeous chocolate dessert was. It was creamy chocolate with two layers of crunch, topped with ripe berries and mint.
We also shared this fabulous lemon dessert! Lemon cream, shortbread base and topped with meringue, small berries and a mint leaf.
The entire meal was exquisite! We were sad to leave (we could have admired that gorgeous ocean view all day long) but it was time to meet our guide and start our nature walk in Wissant.
