Located in the 18th arrondissement of Paris, not far from the Paris flea market, La Recyclerie is an ode to collaboration, eco-friendliness and sustainability, seasonal food and urban farming. The goal of this unusual space, is to raise awareness about eco-responsibility, in a fun and positive way.
Take a look for yourself here! This video takes you an inside tour of the fabulousness that is La Recyclerie!
Location
The restaurant and collaborative space are housed in the old petite ceinture, redone as a communal space, in the 18th arrondissement of Paris. This part of Paris is a bit off the beaten bath, although it is just steps away from the famous Paris Flea Market (which is actually, technically, in Saint Ouen, just across the street from the limit of Paris).

This is the Petite Ceinture! Such an interesting space, the petite ceinture hasn’t been used as a railway since 1934. Since then, nature has taken over here and made this part of Paris home to over 200 species of plants and 70 animal species.

Values
The 3 Rs = Reduce // Reuse // Recycle
Working as a collaborative community and doing things yourself “do it yourself” are the guiding values that guide the entire concept behind La Recyclerie.
Local money
You can pay with La Pêche, a local currency in and around Paris for associations here! One pêche is equivalent to one euro. When you exchange your euros into pêches, 3 percent is automatically deducted and a donation is made to the association of your choice from a list of approved organizations (all political and religious outfits are excluded).
The restaurant
They don’t take reservations so make sure to get there early enough to get a table! We visited with friends on a Sunday morning and arrived early enough to observe as they were just setting things up for the morning service. We enjoyed having the table we wanted and the time to take a look around, snap some photos and chat before we ate.
The daily menu at La Recyclerie is fresh and seasonal and oh so delicious! Everything is run by chef Gilles Cherrier and his team. One day per week, La Recyclerie only serves vegetarian and vegan food and one weekend per month, the brunch is entirely vegetarian as well.
I love the vintage touches all over the space… We spotted birdcages, rhum arrangé, busts, a vintage mannequin, an antique mailbox and more.
If all of this weren’t already cool enough, I haven’t even mentioned the local farm…
A Local Farm… in Paris!
The first time we ever visited La Recyclerie was for an outdoor Swedish market. We were swept away by the chickens, location around the Petite Ceinture and the concept of the location.
