Hotel du Jeu de Paume
We are passionate about finding unique travel experiences and we feel so lucky to share them with you in this space. If you are searching for where to stay in Paris, and are seeking out an authentic and unique travel experience, look no further..
I have been living in Paris for 16 years and am still in awe at its beauty every day. Before I moved here at 18 years old for university, I used to travel to Paris each Summer with my family. During our stays in Paris, wee often passed the Hotel du Jeu de Paume but we never stayed there. I remember passing several times and thinking that the hotel was so beautiful and so welcoming and that I would love to stay there one day.
What is a jeu de paume?
We had no idea before staying at the Hotel du Jeu de Paume Paris!
Before staying at the hotel, we didn’t know the whole history of the jeu de paume. The last 17th century jeu de paume, or real tennis court in Paris. It was built under the rule of Louis XIII in 1634. Matches continued to be played here until 1747. In 1987, the architect Guy Prache purchased the space with the idea to create a hotel. It is listed as a national monument.
We fell in love with the gorgeous beams, swanky interior and lovely bath in our room.
The bed was like Heaven. The perfect spot to rest our heads at the end of a gorgeous day exploring the Ile Saint Louis!
I snuggled up with the magazine in the room and discovered all kinds of events happening in Paris. There are always lots of things to see and do in Paris!
One of the things you’ll notice when you stay on the Ile Saint Louis, is that there are lovely flowers everywhere. These gorgeous roses were quintessentially Parisian and added even more charm to our room!
Exploring the Ile Saint Louis
The Ile Saint Louis is one of our favorite parts of Paris. I used to live in the Marais many years ago and I spent a lot of time strolling around the Ile Saint Louis. We love spending the weekends on the ile, eating at the local restaurants, shopping in the little boutiques, taking photos along the water and sipping coffee in the sweet little Parisian cafés.
Although we have lived in Paris for a long time, this was the first time we had slept on the Ile Saint Louis. We have spent a lot of time on the Ile; it is one of our absolute favorite parts of Paris – it is so charming and quintessentially Parisian. Exploring the Ile Saint Louis by night and actually sleeping on the Ile is a completely different experience than just visiting during the day. You automatically become a part of this incredible community that resides on the island. As soon as the sun goes down and everyone goes back to their neighbourhoods, the Ile Saint Louis comes to life. We can’t recommend experiencing this at least once enough.
We will be doing an entire post about exploring the Ile Saint Louis (including some of the photos we took dand so many wonderful places that you can enjoy during your stay, so keep an eye out for that post as well.
The Hotel du Jeu de Paume Paris is more than a luxury hotel.
It is an authentic and historical space that will lure you back into old Paris with all of its charm, romance and wit.
Some of our favorite addresses on the Ile Saint Louis :
- Les Fous de l’Ile : the spot on the Ile Saint Louis to try innovative and modern French cuisine.
- Berthillon : the traditional sorbet & ice cream shop on the Ile Saint Louis. (Make sure you try their wild strawberry sorbet!)
- Café Saint Regis : our spot to enjoy a romantic breakfast on the Ile Saint Louis. (Our fave dish : smoked salmon eggs benedict!)
