Description

Easy Halloumi fries that are perfectly crunch and delightfully cheesy!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 lb halloumi cheese
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (for breading)
  • 3 tbsp za’atar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup olive oil (for frying)

Instructions

  1. Cut the halloumi cheese into fries (rectangles).
  2. Mix the za’atar and breadcrumbs.
  3. Pour the olive oil into a small frying pan (6″/20cm) (there should be enough to cover the halloumi cheese fries about half way, but not submerge them in olive oil).
  4. Dip the halloumi cheese fries in the egg.
  5. Dip in breadcrumbs and za’atar mixture.
  6. Dip in the egg again.
  7. Dip in the breadcrumbs and za’atar mixture one more time.
  8. Fry the halloumi cheese sticks in the frying pan, for approximately 30 seconds on each side, 2 minutes total.

Notes

We don’t often fry food, but when we do (and it is worth it for these incredible halloumi fries!), we make sure to open the windows of our kitchen so that our apartment doesn’t smell like oil afterwards (especially important for small living spaces).
