A couple of years ago, we had the pleasure of visiting Hugo’s aunt and uncle in Strasbourg. Strasbourg is such a magical city and if you have the chance to go, we definitely recommend trying to go during the holiday season when the entire city transforms into a magical Winter wonderland. When you do go, make sure you try the traditional Alsatian pizza, or flammekueche, also known as a tarte flambée.
It is hard to find a good Alsatian pizza outside of Alsace, and so much more fun to make it at home anyway. You will be able to make it at home and feel like you are in Alsace right away too. It’s easy to make your own dough and top it off with a handful of tasty ingredients you can find at your local grocery store or order online.
Tips : How to make Alsatian pizza
- We always use organic bacon. If you are looking for organic bacon, we love the clean, organic meats offered by Butcher Box.
There are several delicious Alsatian pizza variations
- Gratinière : with gruyère cheese
- Forestière : with mushrooms on top
- Munster : with munster cheese
- Sweet : tops with apples and cinnamon, or sometimes blueberries, and flambée with Calvados (a delicious liquor)
