Paris is the city we call home and also one of our absolute favorite cities in the World. There are so many reasons to visit Paris : the food, the architecture, the museums, the neighborhoods, the wine… The list goes on and on.
Thank you to the Hotel de la Porte Dorée for collaborating with us on this post. Affiliate links included.
A Parisian home away from home
The Hotel de la Porte Dorée is located in the 12th arrondissement, just steps away from the lovely Bois de Vincennes. It has 44 rooms spread over 4 floors. When you enter the hotel, you feel like you are entering into a beautiful, Parisian, private home. We loved the intimate feeling of the hotel right from the start. Staying here, feels like staying with a chic Parisian friend.
When you enter the hotel, you have a reception and sitting area. The couch in the lobby is the perfect, cozy spot to take a sit and reflect on all of the fun activities of the day.
If you’re traveling with littles, they even have their own special spot to read and draw and hang out in the lobby.
The hotel has a small elevator and gorgeous wooden staircase and a darling eating area where we enjoyed an organic breakfast during our stay.
Antique books and a room with a view
We stayed in room 44 – one of the loveliest of the hotel. Our adventure started by receiving our lovely gold key which is reminiscent of an antique key.
We used the elevator when we arrived but chose to use the stairs for the rest of our stay because they are so pretty. We loved walking up and down the gorgeous staircase.
We found all kinds of treasures on the bookshelves in the stairwell including this classic Jules Verne. Guests are encouraged to take a book to read during their stay or leave one of theirs for other guests to enjoy.
Eco-friendly & chic
We were so impressed by the Hotel de la Porte Dorée’s eco efforts. The owner, Christina, has gone above and beyond to make the hotel as eco-friendly as possible which is something we really respect and appreciate as eco-conscious travellers. The hotel has officially gone green and was awarded the Green Key “Eco-Label” awarded to over 1500 establishments in 28 countries worldwide.
All of the furniture in the hotel is either antique (from Christina’s French husband’s family or found in antique markets across France) or made from recycled wood. Guests are encouraged to keep using their towels for as long as is comfortable before washing and specially adapted shower heads ensure that a minimum amount of water is being used. (The shower remains luxurious and the water pressure is great!)
We loved our antique bed and side tables!
Organic products
All of the food and beauty products at the hotel are organic. We were welcomed with a delicious all-natural cookie and a variety of waters prepared at the hotel. Each rooms has a selection of bubbly and still waters.
All of the handsoaps, shampoos and creams in the rooms are organic and luxurious. It was hard to leave our room to go out and explore because everything was so comfortable. However, knowing that there was a large food market, beautiful forest and lake, a selection of tasty restaurants and the Porte Dorée Aquarium close by, we were excited to go out and explore the beautiful 12th arrondissement around the hotel!
In addition to the delicious meals and fun activities we enjoyed in the 12th arrondissement right around the hotel, we even ventured out to the marais taking the metro that is very close to the hotel. It only took us about 15 minutes to get to the marais for a late night ice cream cone in the Place des Vosges!
The Hotel de la Porte Dorée is absolutely for you if you are an eco-conscious traveller looking for a luxurious stay in an intimate environment. You are sure to love the beautiful hotel, warm staff and delicious, organic treats throughout your stay, as well all of the wonderful activities you can do in the neighborhood around the hotel.
