Description

Thick split pea soup, filled with peas, carrots and topped with thick cured ham. This classic Dutch recipe is cosy and delicious.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 cup of split pea
  • 4.5 cups of water
  • 1 shallot (chopped)
  • 1 clove of garlic (chopped)
  • 1 sprig of celery (diced)
  • 1/4 lbs of smoked ham
  • 1 leek (sliced)
  • 1 tsp of herbes de Provence
  • 1 medium carrot (diced)
  • 2 tbsp of fresh parsley (chopped)
  • Salt and pepper

Instructions

  1. Wash the split pea with clear water.
  2. Pour water in a large pot with split pea, shallot, garlic, celery, herbes de Provence and ham.
  3. Add a tsp of salt.
  4. Heat on medium heat for 1h.
  5. At the leek and cook for 20 more minutes.
  6. Remove the ham.
  7. Use a hand blender to mix the soup.
  8. Dice the ham.
  9. Add the carrot and diced ham, a teaspoon of black pepper grounded in the soup and cook for 20 minutes on low heat.
  10. Serve in a bowl and add chopped parsley on the top.
