Have you tried choux at POPELINI, Paris?
Picture a hustling, bustling street filled with tempting Parisian treats : chocolates, sausage, all kind of cheese, breads, fruit and vegetable stands… This is the rue des Martyrs, in the 9th arrondissement, and it’s the neighborhood we call home.
If walking from Notre-Dame de Lorette church, up the hill, towards the Sacre Coeur, you will disover a darling little door on the right side of the street. Walk inside and you will discover heavenly, little cream-filled sweets called choux. This is Popelini!
The creators behind these wonderful cream puffs come up with special flavors all the time.
On this particular perfect Saturday excursion, we set out together, with our sweet pups, down the rue des Martyrs towards Popelini. We were open to discovery : trying any and all flavors that captured our attention and seduced our taste buds!
We were hooked by the raspberry & rose, apple tatin & tapioca choux that day. In the past, we have also enjoyed the classics; caramel, lemon and dark chocolate are some of the absolute best.
You can enjoy these French puff pastries with tea, coffee or (our personal favorite) champagne. They can be an everyday treat or a gorgeous little dessert for a special occassion. We love visiting Popelini when we’re on our way to visit friends and we’re searching for a delicate little treat to surprise our hosts.
Just look at those tapioca pearls! When you bite into the choux, it bursts with cream and flavor.
My favorite was the raspberry & rose. Rose is a tricky flavor. If the rose is too present in a dessert, it can taste a bit soapy. However, when properly dosed, rose can be the most exquisite flavor. I absolutely love it. It pairs perfectly with raspberry! Oh and that little rose bud on top? My heart.
Another favorite characteristic of these yummy little choux, is the crunchy top. So wonderful. But enough talking about these cream puffs! Go and taste these darling choux for yourselves!
