Bouillon Chartier is one of our favorite neighborhood French restaurants. It is an authentic Belle Epoque style bouillon, or cantine. They serve traditional French food in an authentic, Parisian environment. Opened in 1896, this restaurant has existed for over 100 years. The restaurant operates according to a very simple concept – to provide a delicious and affordable meal in an environment that delivers impeccable service. Bouillon Chartier absolutely delivers on this idea!
What to order at Bouillon Chartier
We loved everything we ordered at the Bouillon Chartier. We enjoyed steak frites (one of their signature dishes), boudin sausage (or blood sausage), mashed potatoes, a traditional French broth with noodles, grated celery with mayonnaise, sautéed mushrooms and an oeuf mayonnaise (a deviled egg). All washed down with a lovely red wine. You can consult their full menu here.

The Bouillon Chartier is in the 9th arrondissement of Paris, in the Pigalle / rue Faubourg Montmartre area. It is located at 7 rue du Faubourg Montmartre.
Make sure to leave room for dessert!
We enjoyed chocolate mousse with a generous portion of chantilly, or whipped cream on the side.
How dreamy does that whipped cream look? This overflowing cup of homemade whipped cream, is a must try at Bouillon Chartier. They are known for their fabulous chantilly and just writing these words makes me want to go back and eat it again!
How to pronounce Chartier
Chart-yay – it’s easier to pronounce than it seems. Don’t worry, the kind and professional staff won’t tease you if you butcher it when you come to eat.
