Menu at Bocamexa : authentic Mexican burritos, quesadillas, tacos and salads
I have been living in Paris for 16 years and hadn’t had a burrito in Paris in all that time. Mexican restaurants still remain limited here – and particularly good Mexican restaurants. When you do find a good Mexican restaurant, you are a lot more likely to find fajitas and enchiladas on their Mexican than burritos. Until experiencing Bocamexa, I had honestly not seen burritos on any Mexican restaurant menu in Paris. By the way, if you have other Mexican restaurant recommendations, please leave them in the comments. I will be putting together a list of the best Mexican restaurants in Paris soon.
The history of Bocamexa
Julien Zattara met Alejandra, a student from Mexican, when they had both arrived in Lyon to study at the famous Institut Paul Bocuse. As he explains it, many shots of tequila and one wedding later, they got the keys to the rue Mouffetard in Paris restaurant location 4 years later in 2010.
Artisinal beer and frozen margaritas at Bocamexa
In 2015, la bière Nacional was born. This Bocamexa’s home brewed beer. Hugo tried it and loved it! I paired a frozen margarita with my food and it was one of the best I have ever tried.
Relaxed, Mexican ambiance at Bocamexa
These photos are from the location in the 2nd arrondissement. We have not tried the other locations yet but definitely will. In the first week that we discovered the location in the 2nd, we went for burritos and drinks twice! (It’s that good.)
When you walk in, right in front of you, you can see the burritos, quasedillas, tacos and salads being made right in front of your eyes. On the right, you have a lovely indoor area with welcoming, colorful tables and even a couch next to the open front-facing windows. You can also choose to sit on bar stools at smaller, high tables. We chose to sit on bar stools right in front of the open glass front, since it was a beautiful Summer day when we were there.
The Mexican grocery shop (épicerie)
You can buy all the Mexican sauces, tortillas, spices, marinades, tequilas and hot peppers your heart desires at the Boxamexa store (inside of each restaurant)
Bocamexa now has 4 locations and a food truck
Bocamexa has made it easy for you to satisfy your Mexican food cravings in Paris, no matter what neighbourhood you’re staying in. The original restaurant is in the 5th arrondissement and there are now additional locations in the 11th, 10th and 2nd arrondissements. The first restaurant in the 5th opened in 2010, followed by the food truck, originally called Food Truck Señor Boca, which eventually became Bocamexa as well. Between 2010 and 2016, they opened the other 3 locations as well.
