Where to find the best hot chocolate in Paris
Pierre Marcolini
Pierre Marcolini has dedicated himself to the art of perfecting chocolate since the age of 14. He’s had his Maison for the best 20 years, serving the best of the best chocolate out there. Originally from Belgium, Marcolini now has several boutiques across Paris, as well as other parts of the World.
This holiday season, you can also find a Pierre Marcolini hot chocolate chalet in front of the beautiful department store, BHV. We stopped in recently to try the hot chocolate and it is delicious! It is rich, authentic, French hot chocolate topped with a homemade chocolate whipped cream and Winter biscuits.

Chocolaterie Jacques Genin
Jacques Genin’s chocolate factory has been described by the New York Times as “a holy site for connoisseurs”. He worked as head pastry chef at the Maison du Chocolat and has been voted one of the top French chocolatiers by the Club des Croqueurs de Chocolat.
Stop by the boutiques in the 3rd arrondissement or the 7th arrondissement to get your hot chocolate in Paris fix. Genin’s hot chocolate is less sweet, making it extra chocolatey.

Angelina
We can’t say enough about Angelina and their thick, African hot chocolate. The recipe has been their perfect secret since 1903! The thick chocolate perfection is a combination of three cocoas coming from Africa (Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana and Nigeria) and is specially blended for Angelina
It is dreamy and we talk it up pretty much every chance we get here on the blog, on Instagram and on Facebook. When we get questions about where to go for hot chocolate in Paris (or a Mont Blanc pastry) we always recommend Angelina first. It is the best, tout simplement.
Pro tip : there is always a long line at Angelina but if you want to take your hot chocolate to go rather than sitting inside, you can skip the line and go directly inside to the right and order your hot chocolate to go from there! Most people don’t realize this. It really is a life-saving hack if you want to try the Angelina hot chocolate without waiting on line for hours! (Who has time for that on a trip to Paris?!)
Ask them to put it in your reusable coffee cup and it will stay hot for longer as you walk around the Tuileries across the street!
Hotel Meurice
The Hotel Meurice is one of the most beautiful hotels in Paris and a lovely place to pop into for afternoon tea in Paris or a tasty hot chocolate with whipped cream. The Dali tearoom is one of the most spectacular places to drink hot chocolate in Paris.
Maison du Chocolat
Don’t miss the thick, creamy, dark chocolate at the Maison du Chocolat. There are several Maison du Chocolat boutiques around Paris and Worldwide. You can also taste the Maison du Chocolat hot chocolate at the Parisian department store Printemps, at Galeries Lafayette, in the Publicis Drugstore on the Champs Elysées and even in the Carrousel du Louvre.
Café de Flore
This Parisian institution is a must-visit place during your trip to Paris. I have been going to the Cafe de Flore for years, since I first moved to Paris as a student. One of my favorite activities is sitting outside, sipping on hot chocolate and munching on a flaky, buttery croissant. It is a treat for all the senses.
Chocolaterie Chapon
We first discovered Chapon at the Salon du Chocolat a few years ago. We went back to try the Chapon chocolate mousse bar recently and we fell in love. Stop by the boutique across from Saint Sulpice and get your hot chocolate to go. Take a stroll around Saint Germain with your hot chocolate in hand.
Berthillon
Best known for its ice cream, Berthillon also serves fabulous hot chocolate. We recommend pairing it with Berthillon’s best kept secret : their perfect tarte tatin. We’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, it may just be the best tarte tatin we’ve ever tasted and we have lots of experience – tarte tatin is one of our absolute favorite desserts!

Jean-Paul Hévin
Thick, rich and creamy, you will not be disappointed by Jean-Paul Hévin’s hot chocolate. There are several boutiques in Paris (and also in Asia). Our favorite boutique is the one in the Place Vendôme!
Café Pavane
This café, created by Jacques Hénin’s daughter, Manon Hévin, is a treat for the senses. She serves her father’s chocolate pastries and hot chocolate, using a secret family recipe that involves whipping the chocolate, whole milk and adding lots of spices.
You can also come for lunch and enjoy French-Russian specialties in the beautiful tearoom.
Laduree
Did you know that the Ladurée on the rue Royale, created in 1862, was the first tearoom in Paris? It offered women who were unescorted a place to go and socialize.
This tearoom remains one of the most beautiful places to sit back and relax and enjoy hot chocolate in Paris.
Carette
Perfectly located in the Place des Vosges, you can sit outside in the Summer or inside in the Winter, nibbling on macarons and other sweet treats, sipping on hot chocolate and people watching if that’s your thing.
Pâtisserie Viennoise
Dating all the way back to 1928, the charming Viennese tearoom serves decadent and delicious hot chocolate. Pair your hot chocolate with a traditional chocolate Viennese sachertorte. This pastry shop is old and authentic but less fancy than the other places on this list. You will feel like you are going back in time.
Edwart Chocolatier
The most recent addition to this list of best hot chocolates in Paris, we discovered Edward Chocolatier last Winter. I was out searching for a Valentine’s Day box of chocolates for Hugo and stumbled upon Edward. After trying a couple of their signature chocolates, I was hooked, bought a box for my love and have been a faithful client ever since. I also picked up a cup of their thick hot chocolate that day and it quickly became one of my favorite hot chocolates in Paris.
