Take a horse drawn carriage ride around Vienna while enjoying Sacher Torte and sparkling wine

When researching the best things to do in Vienna, I read over and over again that it is essential to book an authentic horse and carriage ride during your stay.

When we started looking into the different options to enjoy a horse and carriage ride in Vienna, I was delighted to come across the Riding Dinner Sacher Edition offer. This activity combines three of my greatest loves – horses, cake and sparkling wine!

Hugo and I knew we wanted to have a special, romantic, horse and carriage experience and the Riding Dinner Sacher Experience was the perfect fit!

The experience : an unforgettable fiaker ride in Vienna

We met our “butler” (tour guide), fiaker (coachman), horses and carriage in front of the absolutely stunning, legendary Sacher Hotel.

We were invited to sit down, get cozy and our lovely Butler Natascha set everything up for us. She prepared our table inside the carriage, asked if we preferred a bottle of still or sparkling Spring water, and set up two coolers (one for our bottle of water and the other for our bottle of sparkling wine).

Then she popped into the famous Sacher Cafe, within the Sacher Hotel, and brought out our bottle of sparkling wine, as well as two slices of their famous Sacher Torte on beautiful white dishes with gorgeous cutlery.

What’s included in this horse and carriage experience?

The Riding Dinner Sacher Experience is much more than a simple horse and carriage ride in Vienna.

The team at Riding Dinner has thought through every little detail to make your carriage ride the perfect experience during your stay in Vienna.

The romance

If you are looking for a romantic experience in Vienna, this is the perfect fit.

Hugo and I were in Vienna researching the very best things to do in the city and also celebrating our 10-year wedding anniversary. Vienna is the perfect city to celebrate your love and taking a ride in a horse and carriage will be a lasting, romantic memory.

This would also be a great experience to book if you are coming to Vienna for your honeymoon or a romantic city break.

If this is a family trip with kids, a girls’ trip with best friends, or a multi-generational family trip, don’t hesitate to book this experience, it is sure to delight everyone involved.

And, of course, this would be an epic moment to propose, just saying!

The memories

We’ve been back from our trip to Vienna for a couple of weeks and I keep thinking back to this experience. It was so much fun!

I know that years down the road when we think about our time in Vienna, we’ll remember exploring Vienna in a stunning horse drawn carriage, eating Sacher Torte, drinking the Sacher Cuvée sparkling wine and laughing the whole way.

How long is the horse drawn carriage ride with Riding Dinner Sacher Edition?

The ride lasts about 1 hour.

What will you see during the ride?

The ride takes you on a lovely tour of the center of Vienna. You ride past several key locations, such as the Hofburg Palace and the Anker Clock.

Do this activity at the beginning or end of your trip?

You can’t go wrong whenever you choose to do this tour during your trip.

Book it for the beginning of your trip if you want to see how the center of Vienna is laid out and get a feel for the city.

Book it at the end of your trip if you want to make sure that you are saving one of the best activities for last!

Research shows that we tend to remember activities and experiences at the end of a trip more than activities we do in the middle of a trip, so one way to make sure you have great memories of a trip is to plan particularly special experiences and activities at the end of the trip.

In that case, you could save this experience for the end of your trip so everyone goes home with a truly special and lasting memory that will influence how they feel about the entire time spent in Vienna in a positive way.

Where do you meet for the ride?

The starting point for the Riding Dinner Sacher Torte Experience in in front of the famous Sacher Hotel. The Sacher Hotel is really central and easy to find, making this the perfect location to start your trip. It’s also where you start so you’re sure to have perfectly fresh, authentic and delicious Sacher Torte and Sacher Cuvée sparkling wine from Hotel Sacher.

Where will you be dropped off after the ride?

You will be dropped off at another central location – the carriage parking location at Michaelerplatz.

Are carriage horses treated well?

I have a soft spot for horses. If there is any way to spend time with horses, I will be there!

When considering any experience with animals, it is essential to know that the animals are being properly taken care of.

I love the Riding Dinner Instagram account to get a behind-the-scenes peek of the horses off-duty!

Is the Sacher Torte the real deal?

Yes! If you choose to book this experience, you will be receiving an authentic slice of Sacher Torte from the World-famous Sacher Hotel in Vienna.

You sit in the carriage and your butler will go and get one slice of Sacher Torte for each person participating in the ride.

How many people can experience the horse and carriage ride together?

You can have one to four people per carriage ride.

What is the price of this carriage ride in Vienna?

This particular carriage ride costs 375€ for 2 people. You can add a third and/or fourth person for 15€.

However, Riding Dinner proposes a variety of carriage rides to fit a range of budgets.

What happens if it rains?

If it rains, don’t fret! The carriage closes and although it was sunny and beautiful the day we went out on our tour, I can imagine that a rainy ride would be romantic and lovely too. You also have the option to reschedule your ride as long as you give 24 hours notice.

How to book the Riding Dinner Sacher Experience

Booking the Riding Dinner Sacher Experience is easy. You can book it online. We recommend you book as soon as you know you are coming to Vienna because this is a popular activity and spots fill up quickly. Our top tips for getting the most out of the Riding Dinner Sacher Torte Experience

The Riding Dinner Sacher Experience is incredibly special! Come prepared to get the most out of this activity.

Some ideas?

Bring your phone or camera to get the perfect shots to record your experience. Don’t hesitate to ask your butler to take some photos of you and your group. You’ll want to remember this experience forever!

Dress nicely. Whatever you choose to wear will be captured in your photos and videos, so choose wisely.

Bring your appetite! Sacher Torte is quite a dense cake, so make sure you have some room in your stomach to enjoy it.

Leave enough time before and after the activity to enjoy it fully. Avoid over-scheduling your day. Make this activity the main event with one or two other activities that day so that you feel relaxed and happy and can take in the experience porperly.

Dress in layers. Vienna’s weather is much like Paris’ weather – lovely, but a bit moody. Within the same day, you can experience sunshine, rain, cold weather, warm weather and hot weather! It’s always a good idea to have a sweater with you just in case.

Thank you to the Riding Dinner team for making our horse and carriage and Sacher Torte dreams come true! We were guests of Riding Dinner for this tour. All opinions are our own.
