Luxury tents
When we decided to visit the Agafay Desert during our trip to Morocco, I knew I wanted to have the experience of sleeping in a desert tent.
Private bathtub on the terrace of the tent
The Agafay Luxury Camp offers the unique opportunity to stay in a desert tent camp without sacrificing on luxury. Each tent is large, has a mini fridge, features a shower with gorgeous view over the desert dunes and a bathtub on the terrace in front of the tent.

As you can see in the photo below, the tent is really spacious. There is enough room in the tent for a large bed, a second, smaller bed, a mini fridge, a small coffee table, a private shower, bathroom and toilet.
I also love the way the tents are decorated with boho light fixtures, soothing colors that blend in with the desert surroundings and a traditional Moroccan carpet.
View from inside the tent
The view from the tent is so beautiful over the rocky dunes. Every tent at the camp has a similar, unobstructed view.
Agafay Desert Luxury Camp Activities
When you book your stay at the luxury desert camp, they will send you a list of activities that you can book during your luxury desert camp experience.
When we stayed at Agafay Desert Luxury Camp, we enjoyed so many fun activities! We definitely recommend you add them to your itinerary too.
Riding a camel in the Agafay dessert
We loved our experience riding camels in the Agafay Desert.

If you choose to do a camel ride, we highly recommend booking your camel ride for the latest time slot (just before sunset).
Swimming pools
Agafay Desert Luxury Camp features two gorgeous pools. One of them has even been voted the most beautiful pool in Africa. Can you see the camels in the background?

It is so relaxing to sip a cocktail or glass of wine by the pool as the day turns into evening (alcohol is served at the desert camp in addition to a variety of non-alcoholic beverages).
You can see the second, smaller pool in the photo below. The smaller pool is lovely too.
Quad Ride
You can also ride quads in the Agafay desert. We didn’t try this activity but we drove by others enjoying quad rides and it looked like they were having a lot of fun.
Spa
There is an on-site spa at Agafay Desert Luxury Camp where you can enjoy a traditional Moroccan hammam experience, as well as massages, face and body treatments.

Stargazing
Hugo loves astronomy so when we heard that one of the activities on offer at the Agafay Desert Luxury Camp was stargazing with an astronomer, we knew we had to add it to our itinerary.
We’re so glad we booked this activity because it was so much fun and we learned a lot.
Watch the sunrise over the desert
There is a bed out on the terrace of the tents at Agafay Luxury Camp so that you can lie outside under the stars at night or watch the sunrise over the dunes in the morning, or just relax outside and enjoy the view any time of day.
We knew we wanted to see the sun rise over the desert dunes, so we set an early alarm and head outside to see the sun rising over the desert.
Even during warmer months, it is cold outside at night and early in the morning, so we made sure we had warm pajamas with us and sweaters in addition to the comforter that is provided on the outside bed.
It was such a magical experience to see the sun rising over the dunes in the Agafay Desert, definitely worth waking up early to experience!
Meals at Agafay Luxury Camp
We chose to book a romantic dinner in a private tent when booking our activities at the desert camp.
If you want to have this experience too, make sure you book it in advance.
When you book dinner in a private tent, you will choose your menu in advance. It includes a starter, main course and dessert.
When you arrive at the tent, it is so beautifully decorated. Ours had roses and candles everywhere to create the romantic mood.

In addition to the private tent dinner experience, there are two restaurants and a poolside bar at Agafay Desert Luxury Camp.
Enjoy Moroccan specialties, like couscous and tagines, as well as a variety of fusion dishes. We thought the food was delicious at the desert camp. Our favorite thing we tried was the orange blossom flan for dessert. It was so good!
Daily breakfast is also included in your stay. Breakfast was delicious and included eggs, fruits, croissants and Moroccan bread.
How long should you stay at Agafay Luxury Camp?
We stayed for one night and honestly, I think it’s the perfect amount of time to stay in the Agafay Desert. You could spend longer if you just want to have more time to relax and enjoy the beautiful pools, spa and activities but you can easily do all of the proposed activities in just one day.

The best time of year to stay in an Agafay Desert Luxury Camp
Not surprisingly, since Agafay Desert Luxury Camp is in the desert, it can get extremely hot at certain times of the year.
We visited in March and the weather was hot during the peak sunlight hours of the day. It cooled down to a lovely temperature in the evening. The best time to enjoy the pools was in the evening starting around 6:30pm.
If you want to spend time in the desert, I think the best time to visit is early Spring or late Fall, so March – April and October – November. Outside of those months, you will be facing extreme heat during the day. The tents are air conditioned, so that would help with the heat during the Summer months, but I can imagine that it would be almost unbearable outside.

How to get to the Agafay Luxury Camp from Marrakech
We booked a private transfer from our hotel in Marrakech. You can ask your hotel to organize this for you. Otherwise, you can also ask for a driver from Agafay Luxury Camp to come and get you in Marrakech or other nearby places.
A private transfer is the easiest way to get to the Agafay luxury desert camps. You’ll have a professional driver, air conditioning, a comfortable 4×4 car and can take a bathroom break if necessary during your trip.
Visit Agafay Luxury Camp on a day trip
If you don’t have time to spend the night in the Agafay Desert, you can visit on a day trip from Marrakech. Since it’s only about an hour and half drive from Marrakech to the Agafay Desert Luxury Camp, you can ask a driver to bring you for the day from Marrakech and then ask the Agafay Desert Luxury Camp to organize a driver for you back to Marrakech.
The Agafay Desert Luxury Camp offers a day pass so that you can enjoy the pools and have lunch on-site.
